Electricity & heating is included in the cost along with all bed linen, towels, consumables and WiFi.
Rates are based on a 7 night stay from Friday to Friday. Shorter periods and mid-week arrivals may be arranged. Please ask for details.
Beds are made up for your arrival and each cottage is cleaned and carefully checked between lets.
Please arrive after 4.00p.m. and vacate your cottage by 10.00a.m.
All cottages are fully equipped.
A good housekeeping deposit of £100 is required. This will be returned within two weeks following departure.
The balance payment is due 30 days before your arrival date.
If booking within 30 days of your arrival please send full holiday cost.
In the event that you are unable to take up your confirmed booking please advise us as soon as possible and we will do our best to re-let the cottage.
However if we are unable to re-let we reserve our right to the full amount of rental due.
Experience has shown that unfortunately it does sometimes happen that cancellation or curtailment of a holiday is unavoidable due to illness or other causes.
As this can be a very distressing event we strongly recommend that you insure against this.
The maximum number of persons accommodated in each cottage is clearly stated on the website and must not be exceeded.
Extra beds in the form of ‘Z’ beds, where space allows, are available at a cost of £20.00
We have a NO SMOKING policy in all of our cottages and public buildings.
Guests are free to smoke outside or in the grounds.
The company, its employees and representatives shall not be liable to guests or third parties for any loss or damage to persons or third parties howsoever arising. Except for unloading, vehicles should be parked in the spaces assigned to the individual cottages but are left on the property at the vehicle owner’s sole risk.
In the event of breakages or damage to our property and/or its contents caused by guests or any member of their party, full payment is required for the actual cost of replacement or repair. An additional charge for extra cleaning will be made after departure if a cottage is left in an unacceptable condition.
DOGS – £15 per week or part week per dog.
Dogs must be kept under their owners control at all times and must be kept on a leash around the cottages
Please clean up after your dog
We ask that dogs are not left alone in cottages as this can sometimes cause the dog to become distressed at being left in an unfamiliar home.
Accessibility guide for Whitewells Farm Cottages – January 2019
Whitewells Farm Cottages are located in the rural hamlet of Ridgeway Cross, near to the border between Worcestershire and Herefordshire. We are located on Wells Lane, immediately off the A4103 approximately one quarter mile west of the B4220, Bromyard Road. The nearest village is Cradley, about one mile to the east of us and our nearest town is Malvern about 5 miles away.
Our cottages have been developed from the original farm buildings on this site dating back over 200 years. As such each cottage is unique with differing characteristics, features and amenities.
We are available to answer any specific queries about Whitewells and how we might make your stay as comfortable and as enjoyable as possible.
We have a detailed website which describes Whitewells Farm and our cottages, (www.whitewellsfarm.co.uk) as well as providing links to other web sites with useful information on activities and events in our area. Bookings can be made via the website, email, phone and by letter.
We are in a rural area, which is also an area of outstanding natural landscape, with views to the Malvern Hills. However, this does mean that we are very limited in terms of public transport with infrequent bus services. The nearest bus stop is over half a mile away on the A4103 (a very busy main road) which has no pavement and is very hilly.
The nearest train station is at Malvern Link and a number of Malvern based taxi firms can be called from the station. A list of taxi firms is available on site. Cradley has a post office, news agent and shop offering the basics. Malvern is the nearest town for main shopping but both Waitrose (Malvern) and Tesco (Ledbury) will delivery groceries on request.
Arrival and car parking facilities
With each booking we provide comprehensive driving directions to Whitewells from all parts of the country. We also provide arrival and parking information relevant to the cottage which is to be occupied. In all cases passengers and luggage can be dropped off immediately in front of each cottage and then parking is available either immediately behind the cottage (Cider Press) or in the tarmac parking bays on Wells Lane about 20 yards from the cottages (Haywain, Sparrows Nest, Willow, Old Hop Kiln and Saddlestones) or immediately alongside
Duck Pond Cottage.
Whitewells Farm Cottages are located on a north-south sloping site with a gravel surface driveway linking each of the cottages to their front door.
Duck Pond cottage is at the southern end of the property and its access is via a relatively steep concrete slope from the main driveway to its parking area. There are also four 8inch steps down to the cottage for pedestrians.
Cider Press cottage is however in a relatively flat area and is accessed via a built up tarmac road to make wheelchair use, or use with crutches much easier.
All of the cottages are entirely self contained and are let on a self catering basis.
The owners do live on site at Whitewells Farmhouse and are available either in person or by phone to deal with any queries. There is a manual in each cottage explaining the area, facilities and introduction to the area.
The farmhouse is on the southern part of the site and is reached via a relatively steep crazy paved footpath.
Guests are welcome to wander around the gardens at Whitewells (except areas which are clearly private) and in our woodland. Whitewells is a working smallholding and every care must be taken around buildings and machinery. Since there usually livestock around, particular care must be taken to ensure gates are closed and hands must be washed if any animals or poultry are handled. Dogs must be on a lead around the cottges and care must be exercised around the duckpond especially with children.
We have an information room for guests, located at the back of Haywain Cottage. It contains maps, DVDs and local brochures for use by guests. The information room is immediately opposite the Farmhouse across the main lawn and is reached from the main driveway down five x 9 inch steps and along the crazy paved pathway or across the lawn to avoid the steps. Laundry facilities available for guests use are also located in this room. The laundry area is equipped with a front loading automatic washing machine and a standard sized dryer.
Each cottage has its own toilet facilities and there are no public facilities on site.
Each of our 7 cottages are unique in terms of their layout since they are conversions from old farm buildings. Depending on individual needs and circumstances, some cottages may be more comfortable and offer greater flexibility than others. We are always happy to discuss specific requirement prior to booking to ensure that we can provide the right cottage to meet the requirement.
With the exception of Cider Press cottage, all of our cottages have standard doorways (2ft 6 inches) and all have at least one step up at the entranceway.
The cottages’ living areas, bedrooms and stairs are carpeted, with lino or tiles used in the kitchens and bathrooms, except for Haywain which is carpeted.
Heating in the cottages is bio-mass central heating. This system also supplies all of the hot water.
All of our beds (with the exception of the small twin beds in Old Hop Kiln 2’6”) are of a standard size. The single beds are 3ft x 6ft 3” and the bed height is 27”. The double beds are 4ft 6” x 6’ 3”.
All of our cottages have fully equipped standard size (3 ft height) kitchens with cookers, fridge/freezers and microwave ovens. The 3 larger cottages also have dishwashers, fridge and freezers.
All of our cottages have a flat screen digital TV with freeview and a DVD player.
Cider Press Cottage is all on one level and was designed with wider doorways (34 inches). The cottage is carpeted in the lounge and bedroom and vinyl flooring in the kitchen and bathroom.
The living room has sliding glass doors with a 3 ft 3 inch opening and glass windows either side. The room is equipped with a single upholstered chair and bed settee. All of the furniture is movable to suit any particular requirement.
The kitchen has a 5 ft x 1 ft 7” eating counter which is 28.5 inches high and is 27 inches from the floor to the underside which can accommodate wheelchairs.
The bedroom has standard twin beds. There is an alarm pull in the bedroom which rings a bell on the outside of the cottage to summon help.
The bathroom has a standard pedestal basin, there is a full sized corner bath with an integrated seat and an over the bath shower attachment. The toilet is a standard height.
Old Hop Kiln is a two storey, three bedroom cottage. The entranceway has a step up into the lobby area and a further step up into the living room. The kitchen, which is in the circular Oast has a low (5 ft 6”) entrance arch. The upper floor is reached via an open tread, dog-leg staircase with six steps to the half landing and a further 6 steps to the upper landing. The staircase has banisters on both sides and carpeted treads. The main bathroom has a corner bath, standard pedestal and standard toilet. The second bathroom has a standard pedestal sink and an electric shower cubicle which has a 9 inch step up.
Saddlestones Cottage is a two storey, two bedroom “upside down” cottage, with the bedrooms and bathroom on the ground floor. The entranceway to Saddlestones is via 3 steps (largest 8 inches) to the front doorway. Inside there is a 6 inch step down to the right to the twin bedroom and the bathroom and to the left a dog-leg staircase to the upper floor, kitchen and living area. The stairway has 8 x 7 inch steps up to the half landing and a further 5 steps up to the kitchen. There is a 9 inch step down from the kitchen to the living room. The bathroom has a standard sink, toilet and that with an over-bath shower.
Haywain Cottage is also a two storey, two bedroom “upside down” cottage. Entrance to the cottage is via a 7 inch step up to the front door. Inside, to the right there is a 7 inch step down to the bathroom and twin bedroom with a step over an 8 inch bean into the double bedroom. The bathroom has a standard pedestal basin, toilet and bath with a power shower over. In the halfway there is a straight carpeted staircase with 12 steps, each 8 inches high with a banister rail to one side, leading to the kitchen. From the kitchen is an 8 inch step up into the living room.
Sparrows’ Nest is a two storey one double bedroom cottage. Entrance is via a 4inch step up into the living room and open plan kitchen. The carpeted staircase is a semi dog-leg with 12 steps, each 8 inches high to the bedroom. The bathroom has a standard toilet, pedestal sink and a bath under the eaves. The bath has a hand held shower attachment.
Willow Cottage is a two storey one twin bedroom cottage. Entrance is via two steps up, one 8 inches and one 6 inches into the living area and open plan kitchen. The carpeted staircase is straight up with 11 steps each 8 inches leading to the bedroom and adjoining bathroom. There are banister rails on both sides. The bathroom has a standard pedestal basin and bath with a hand held shower attachment.
Duck Pond Cottage is a single storey one double bedroom cottage. From the adjoining parking area access to the cottage is via two 6 inch steps up to a small courtyard followed by two 6 inch steps down. There is then a 9 inch step up into the cottage. Inside the rooms are all on one level until the bathroom where there are three 6 inch steps up. The bathroom has a standard toilet, pedestal basin and bath with a power shower over.
A comprehensive folder is provided in each cottage with additional information in the information/laundry room.
Mobile phone reception is quite poor although with some providers better reception can be obtained outside the cottages.
